Haydon School. St Nicholas Building
Haydon School was awarded funding in 2005 for the development of a new three storeys, 3000sqm, art and design building as an extension to its St Nicholas Building.
The multifunctional classroom uses of the new building, design and technology, science labs, food technology and art rooms, dictate large 100sqm clear span spaces in line with DfES planning guideline. Additionally the Mechanical and Electrical requirements for these functions are bulky and complex. Care has been taken during the design stages to incorporate the varied service positions thus mitigating the prospect of a light industrial character to a school building.
Extensive landscaping has been used to site the building into the existing sloping school site courtyards and breakout spaces for the pupils.
